Puerto Rico

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

In July of 2010, I boarded a plane to Puerto Rico. I was headed there for the third summer in a row working with Mobilizing Students as an intern. I was so excited to be going back to the island I fell in love with. Little did I know that this trip I would fall in love with more than just the island. I knew that I would be meeting up with 2 other interns, one on the plane and the other in Puerto Rico. I sat down in my seat, turned around and introduced myself to Mitchell Muñoz, my fellow intern and current husband. Our friendship began in Puerto Rico and the rest is history.

Obviously, Puerto Rico is a very special place for both us. And that is why I am beyond excited to visit the island again. On June 15th we will head down there with another couple from our organization. This trip won't be like any other trip to PR. We will be meeting with Pastors all over the island looking for another contact for Mobilizing Students. This trip will definitely consist of working, but I think we will see a lot more of the island and culture this time around. Looking forward to spending a month with my love in one of our favorite places!

Summer TravelsWe are excited about traveling this summer! We have already been enjoying our time in Houston with Mitch's family. This schedule is very tentative. Some of the dates are likely to change, but if you're in one of these cities, we'd love to see you and catch up before Mitch and I move to Guatemala. Other cities that could be added to our list are:
Nashville, TN
San Francisco, CA
Dallas, TX

Our trips to Atlanta will be mission trips we're leading and our trip to Puerto Rico will be more of a business trip for the organization we're with. We are going to make the most of our time with friends and family because come September we'll be off to Guatemala. Thanks everyone for your love and support. Hope to see you soon!

Goodbye Nashville Part 2

Packing…it's kinda a pain. But completely necessary I suppose. As our apartment becomes more empty, it's starting to set in that tomorrow we are pulling out of Nashville. There's just something about this city that has made me fall in love with it. We are going to miss this city and the people we've met here.

Here are some highlights from 2012-2013 of living in Nashville:

Piggy back rides :)

Eating a Kurdish meal with our Kurdish friends

Hanging out with these awesome Nepali kids

I'm going to miss these girls!

Mission trip in Atlanta

Downtown Nashville

We have spent every Monday night at this girl's house with her and her family. They have been our Spanish teachers and we're going to miss them so so much!

I have loved living in a refugee apartment complex. These kids may be crazy, but they are so fun and believe it or not I will miss their random invasions into our home.

Tomorrow's the day we head out. Tomorrow's also the day we become nomads for 4ish months! Our summer schedule is looking pretty crazy, but it's going to be great summer of traveling and spending time with friends and family.

 Adios, Nashville.

Goodbye Nashville Part 1

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

We are now down to 6 days left in Music City. Yesterday was our last and final day of Trek-X. We spent the morning reciting all the scripture we learned this year and finished it off with lunch at one of the many taco stands. So thankful for the past 2 years in Nashville and all the friendships we've made. As we get ready to leave, I wanted this post to be a reflection on our time in Nashville and all the memories we've made.

Here are some highlight's from our first year in Nashville (2011-2012):

Downtown Nashville on Broadway

Nashville known restaurant- The Loveless Cafe

Experiencing beautiful fall weather in Nashville!

Trip to the Dominican Republic and Haiti!

Retreating with everyone to Pulaski, TN

Hanging out with our Burmese friends

A surprise visit from my best friend!

Meeting and hearing from Peter, our partner in Kenya.

The group before parting ways for the summer.

This is just a small tid-bit of our first year in Nashville. We have so many fond memories of our time here and will truly miss it. Nashville will always be special to us as it was Mitch and I's first home as a married couple. Thanks to everyone who has supported us along the way!
God bless
